Specialities from Austria
The Hartberg plant in Styria is the largest production site of Prolactal GmbH, and has the longest tradition of all Prolactal production sites. This is where tailor-made functional milk products and milk derivatives are developed and produced. In addition to dry products made from milk and whey, Prolactal also offers concentrates and special blends. Specialities from Hartberg are used for the manufacture of such tasty delights as ice cream and chocolate, but also for baby food and bakery products.
In 2007, the 110 employees of the Hartberg plant generated revenue of 56 million euros. The total production volume that year was 26,000 tonnes, to which the blends segment and the milk and whey drying segment contributed the lion’s share. Some typical products from the Hartberg plant are drum-dried powder, skimmed milk powder, whey powder with a demineralisation level of up to 90%, as well as hydrolysed whey concentrates. Cocoa preparations - a high-quality intermediate product for the Japanese chocolate industry - provide a large part of the business volume in the blends segment.
The Hartberg plant's two heated drums and four spray towers ensure that food producers from all segments of the food industry are provided with milk products of the highest quality. In addition, the blending and drying plants provide a very high degree of flexibility when it comes to fulfilling customer wishes: both lot sizes and product characteristics are highly customisable, and production recipes are adapted to each individual customer's requirements.
"Contract production" is a special service for our customers, allowing food producers to have their own raw materials dried in the Hartberg plant. We at Prolactal consider Development & Innovation to be of the utmost importance: this is why the company conducts research in a spray tower specifically built and maintained for this purpose by Prolactal.
